Creating Community

Community starts with one person caring about another person and grows from there. Proximity helps, common interests, values and fears help. They help people understand why the community exists and makes them comfortable trusting it, but they are not necessary. All that is necessary is the care.

If you want community pick someone, anyone and care about them. That will give them a little stability and support to care back and maybe they will bring someone else along and grow your community.

It is not foolproof. It will not always work. It may not last forever, but with a little care you have the opportunity to create something that is valuable and scarce. An increasingly mobile and individualized world does not necessitate the loss of community. It just means we have something new, a desire for community, to build it on.
